For decades, numerous Acts used the Melbourne GPO building as the central point. But what happens when the GPO stops being a post office, as it did in 2006?
The Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel and the Office of the Surveyor General Victoria determined that the official reference point is now the road intersection of Elizabeth Street and Bourke Street.
To make this official, Reeds Consulting in conjunction with Citiwide installed a new brass plaque to mark this "zero point" on 21st May 2025.
